DNA Analysis Links Chantilly Man to Cold Case Sexual Assaults

A Chantilly man is being held with out bond in reference to three sexual assault circumstances that date again to 1998, Fairfax County police stated on Thursday. And police are searching for different potential victims.

Advanced DNA testing on forensic proof and family tree analysis led police to Edward Eugene Pottmyer, 58.

Cold case detectives submitted the DNA to Othram Inc. The firm used Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing to create a profile that was then used for Forensic Genetic Genealogy analysis to establish Pottmyer.

With assist from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, authorities took Pottymer into custody on June 5. He faces prices of forcible sodomy and abduction with the intent to defile.

Fairfax County police stated they consider Pottymer sexually assaulted a 48-year-old girl out for a run round 7 p.m. within the Fair Lakes space on September 9, 1998. They stated he implied he had a knife through the assault.

The police stated Pottymer is a suspect within the sexual assault of a 66-year-old throughout a break-in on Parkside Drive in Fairfax round 11 p.m. on August 3, 2000. The sufferer was asleep when the suspect pressured his approach into her house. She fought him off and escaped by leaping from a second-story balcony.

In the third case, a 51-year-old girl noticed a person exposing himself outdoors her sliding glass door round 10:45 p.m. on December 6, 2004. She yelled and he ran.
